ISAA-Rembrandt Society State Convention 2011 Highlights

Mardi Gras Masquerade was the theme for the 31th annual Convention held at the Doubltree Hotel, Collinsiville, IL on March 11. Students were welcomed by the state officers: Shelby C.-President, from Nokomis High School, Sierra H.-Vice-President, from Nokomis High School, Alesia W.-Secretary, from Nokomis High School, and Allie S.-Public Relations, from Nokomis High School.

Students participated in different activities including making decorations, competitions, maskmaking and games. The special project was making trading cards.

Workshops were presented by digital painter Genece Hamby of Alton and by Jason Bly who teaches drawing and design classes at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and Lewis and Clark Community College.

Sponsors with ten or more years of participation were recognized. The Most Contributing Member award was given to each deserving student from each attending school chapter.

Students who received high awards for their artwork were recognized and presented ribbons. See Art Gallery. The winner of the Jim Hill Scholarship competition was Jordan C. from Nokomis and Karli H. from Hillsboro H.S. Winners of the scrapbook contest were awarded: 1st place, Hillsboro H.S., 2nd place, New Berlin H.S., and 3rd place, Nokomis H.S.

The new officers induction ceremony was held. The new officers are President Allie Sp. from Nokomis H.S., Vice President Alesha W. from Nokomis H.S., Secretary Allie St. from Sesser-Valier H.S., and Public Relations officer Brandon S. from Nokomis High School.

The evening was devoted to wearing Mardi Gras costumes, making new acquaintances, swimming, and dancing the night away with a DJ.

Some chapters chose to visit St. Louis Art Museum the next morning.
